Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the Prospectus-cum-Notification for Lateral Entry Selection Test 2027 for admission in Class IX of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for the academic session 2027-28. Only candidates who are bonafide residents of the district and are already studying in Class VIII during session 2026-27 can apply. Registration is completely free and the last date to apply is Wednesday, 30 September 2026.

Age Limit (as per NVS Notification)

NVS reserves the right to refer any candidate to a Medical Board for confirmation of age in case any doubt arises on the basis of the date of birth certificate.

Educational Qualification

[‘Who Can Apply’]

The candidate must be a bonafide resident of the district in which the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located.

The candidate must be studying in Class VIII during the academic session 2026-27 in a Govt. / Govt. recognised school of that same district.

The candidate must apply only to the Navodaya Vidyalaya located in the district where he / she resides.

[‘Who Cannot Apply’]

Students who have already passed Class VIII in any previous academic session.

Candidates whose date of birth does not fall between 01 May 2012 and 31 July 2014 (both days inclusive).

Candidates whose district of study in Class VIII and district of residence are different.

Candidates studying in a school that is not recognised by the district administration where admission is sought.

Candidates who have already appeared for the lateral entry selection test in the previous academic session.

Reservation: existing vacant seats in the SC / ST / OBC / Divyang categories are reserved for students of those categories. OBC reservation follows the Central list; candidates whose caste is not in the Central list should apply as General candidates.

Selection Process

  • Registration on the NVS application portal
  • Lateral Entry Selection Test (JNVST) on 10 April 2027
  • Preparation of merit list on the basis of marks obtained
  • Document verification and provisional admission

The selection test is conducted against vacant seats only in the JNV concerned. Duration is 2 and a half hours, with an additional 50 minutes for candidates with special needs (Divyang). There is no negative marking — one mark is awarded for every correct answer. The admit card shall be downloaded free of cost.

How To Apply Online

  • Visit the official NVS Class IX portal at cbseitms.nic.in/2026/nvsix_9
  • Click on the registration link for Class IX Lateral Entry Admission (2027-28)
  • Keep a photograph and the signatures of the candidate and parent ready in JPG / JPEG format between 10 KB and 100 KB
  • Fill in basic details such as state, district of residence and study, and Aadhaar number
  • Submit the form before the last date 30 September 2026
  • Download and print the registration form for future reference
